Closing the program with you mentee
Closing a professional relationship with a mentoree may presents challenges for some and non for others depending to the emotional investments each put into the collaboration. We invite you to pay attention to both your own feelings and your mentee's.Certainly, as the program runs out, there is no more obligation to maintain weekly meetings with your partner anymore, however if you feel you would like keeping in touch with him/her you are welcome to explore this topic together - how your professional relationship may transition into social friendship. Keep in mind it is entirely your decision, what you offer. It is also ok to have meetings taper off and "just" occasionally greet each other on-campus or perhaps engage in small-talk time to time.
We highly recommend you to use your last meeting to reflect on the amount of work you have accomplished; what you liked about these meetings, what positive qualities you identified in your mentee - his/her work ethic or way of approach. Feel free to ask for feedback as well.
In any kind of challenges or difficulties, please, ask for free supervision from your student mental health counselor or program coordinator.
