Mental framing for mentors - a deeper understanding of week #5

We would like to dedicate attention to mindfulness as a decompressing technique for students experiencing academic pressure. The concept of mindfulness is not a new exotic approach to challenges; it is simply being present and aware in a constructive way - being reflective rather than overly reactive to events, people or things. Mindfulness is the opposite of mindlessness.

Research shows that close to half of the time we are in auto-pilot mode when it comes to our reactions. Mindfulness practices however can reduce stress, anxiety and other destructive emotions leading to impulses and losing control easily as we discussed during the previous week in connection to self-regulation. For medical professionals it is also very useful to adapt some mindfulness techniques that promote sound mind/sound body behaviors.
