« Back to third week main page

This week we are focusing on sharpening your visual observation skills when carrying on conversations. We know, body signals, gestures can speak a 1000 words about the a person - indicting the level of involvement, feelings etc. There are great many books have been published revealing cultural norm-bound body-language among from Allen & Barbara Pease to Joe Navarro and so many others. It is indeed practical to read more on this topic in order to be more aware of your own communication techniques learned to use when interacting with others.

Let us share some of the most recommended materials in this subject. However learning more about this topic could be useful for your professional career in the medical field (when interacting with clients, colleagues etc.) Understanding and acknowledging the reactions of others (to your own presence) is only one aspect of non-verbal communication, but equally great to apply techniques that is congruent with what you want to say.

Based upon the psychologist, Albert Mehrabian’s work, the 7/38/55 rule was established to describe how we focus ourselves when being talked to.
7 percent of communication comes from the words we say
38 percent comes from our tone of voice
55 percent comes from our body language

So a great portion of how we communicate with others come from non-verbal clues. See further links bellow for keeping you on the track.
